The story behind the painting ....
For starters, it’s Daniel Ricciardo, a talented young WA driver. Circumstances prevented us from joining friends in Singapore in 2015, but we were very excited to watch and support him from the comfort of the lounge roon. Not often you get an Aussie F1 driver let alone one from your hometown of Perth.
Then there is the spectacular sight of the Singapore street circuit at night, lit up so much it probably can be seen from outer space. I knew I wanted to paint the extreme colours against the white background as it just so represented the electric feel of that night time race. The blur just adds to the effect of speed and vibration. The positioning of the cars coming straight at the viewer is challenging and captures the intensity of an F1 race.
I love the gladiatorial look of Daniel – symbolic of the bravery and skill required as he pilots at lightening speeds his super powered chariot. The word “INFINITI” seems so appropriate – it just adds to the feeling of pushing the boundaries of what is humanly possible ... the spirit of other worldly abilities reached lap after lap.
